FAQs

Why are you doing this blog?

I'm doing it because it's a secret that I was forced to keep from a very young age, and it's taken me 20-odd years to figure out that they were never my secrets to keep.  They're the perpetrators.  By not telling anyone, I was helping them, and hindering myself.

What happened when you started telling your story?

One of the first people I told was my (now) ex-husband.  As it turns out, that was a huge mistake, as he was an abuser himself, albeit a different kind.  He used my past to torment me endlessly, and rarely let up on his barrage of emotional, physical, verbal, and sexual abuse.

So what caused you to continue telling people your story?

My hope was (and still is) that it will help someone who's in a similar situation to recognize it for what it is, get the resources that will help them, and get out.

How did you learn to trust a man again, after everything?

I knew, deep down, that not every man treated their daughter, wife or girlfriend the way these men (and boys) treated me.  I just had to find him.  First I had to find myself, though.  I went to therapy, talked to friends, and got out of my isolation.
